Yeah, that one's an "either/or" situation. Though not an actual horror story, "Hunchback" (especially the Lon Chaney version) does have some elements of the bizarre. There have been articles about it published in just about every monster movie magazine since Famous Monsters Of Filmland. One such publication from the 70s, Monster World (not the Warren magazine) used the character as a mascot. They later changed the title to Quasimodo's Monster Movie Magazine.
